Get Ready to Make Some Noise at Aqua Boom 2013!

Aqua Boom 2013 in Kingsland is just around the bend! This 44-year tradition is the Hill Country’s hottest 4th of July event, with a weeklong celebration of patriotic festivities, competitions, events, and live entertainment. Of course, the amazing fireworks show over Lake LBJ is a highlight, but there’s much more going on this year at Aqua Boom 2013.
Aqua Boom Pageant & 1st Annual Baby Show Contest
Head over to the Kingsland Community Center Saturday, July 29 to watch the local youth exhibit their beauty, brains, and talent as they compete for college scholarships at the annual Miss Aqua Boom Pageant. Little Miss and Mister competitions begin at 2:30, with Miss Teen following at 6:30. Find out whom the reigning queen will be this year at the 8 pm crowning ceremony. Have a new addition to the family? Share your bundle of joy by registering for the first ever Baby Show Contest held during the pageant!
Aqua Boom July 4th Festivities – A Day of Fun Honoring Our Nation
Be ready to hit the saddle early and head out for the Kids Parade and Land Parade, which kicks off at 9 am near the community center. You’ll want to register afterwards for some of the wildly fun contests and races happening at 2600 River Bridge from 4-10 pm, including the Rubber Ducky showdown and the Wacky Raft Race – where if it floats and it ain’t a boat, you can be in it to win it! Catch the always amazing boat parade and expert ski show, then grub down on tasty fare from local vendors. Hang out ‘til dark to see if win the Sea-Doo GTI Raffle, enjoy live music, and witness the impressive fireworks show over Lake LBJ. Weekend Events Keep the Good Times Rolling July 5-6th
Carnivores might want to head to Friday afternoon’s Steak Cook-off event or even enter their own secret recipe. Be sure to save some energy and appetite for Saturday’s BBQ Cook-off and Chili Cook-off. Arts and crafts vendors will bring their exotic and handcrafted goods, while water related games and contests keep things lively, yet cool for Aqua Boom goers.
Keep your feet ashore and enter the Aqua Boom Golf Tournament or watch the Flights of Fancy radio controlled model aircraft exhibition, where you’ll have the chance to try your skills under the guidance of a pro. Try your hand pitching horseshoes or enter the washer toss – where close really does count! Aqua Boom 2013 concludes with a free street dance for all featuring a live performance by River Rat Revue.

With the summer sun drenching its sweltering heat upon us, everyone is looking for cool ways to beat the summer heat. Fortunately for locals and visitors, the Highland Lakes is teeming with wonderful excursions where families can escape hot temperatures and have a ton of fun doing so.
Leap Into Lake LBJ
Low water levels this year may have given you the summertime blues, but the blue waters of Lake LBJ are still ready for action. Fishing, boating, and swimming are all possible here because Lake LBJ is a constant-level lake, so bring your desire for water action and head this way. Several outfitters can take you on a custom journey, while others are happy to rent you watercraft and supplies – many will even bring it to you at your Highland Lakes accommodations. The crappie and bass are still biting, and the catfish are really biting right now, so bring your rod and catch some dinner or simply have a good time trying.
Get Treed with Cypress Valley Canopy Tours
Discover a hidden gem in Spicewood where you can zip through the treetops, learn a little something about the region’s ecology, and then enjoy a picnic and a swim at the property’s private lake. Stay cool as you traverse five zip lines and two sky bridges during the traditional tour, and then go for the gusto and try Cypress Valley Canopy Tours more challenging course. Majestic cypress trees up to a hundred feet tall are full of enchanting wildlife, and the experience manages to be both thrilling and relaxing simultaneously.
Beat the Heat Underground at Longhorn Caverns
Ultra-cool adventures for the entire family await at Longhorn Caverns State Park. Stunning Longhorn Cavern remains a steady 68-degrees year round and offers visitors views of the state’s most remarkable, naturally formed underground wonders. Get wild and take on the Wild Cave Challenge to crawl, climb, and explore areas of the cave unseen until a few years ago. Traditional cave tours are available daily, and Wild Cave Tours are available most Saturdays by appointment.
All Aboard! Austin Steam Train’s Saturday Evening Express
Feel the refreshing breezes from your cozy seat on the Saturday Evening Express journey aboard the Bertram Flyer. These two and a half hour excursions depart from Burnet at 6 pm and travel to Bertram for a brief layover. The trek traverses some of the most scenic parts of the region, and long summer daylight hours create ideal viewing conditions. This special ride is available on Saturday June 22, and on several weekends in July.

Summer Fun in Lake Country

It may be getting warmer here in the Highland Lakes, but the sunshine doesn’t keep the fun at bay for long in these parts. The weekend of June 14th will be literally smoking with the kickoff of four of our favorite annual events. Races, rodeos, and the sweet sounds of music will take over the communities of Burnet and Marble falls, bringing with it sizzling summer fun to Lake Country.
Gear Up for the Marble Falls Soapbox Classic Adult Derby
It full speed ahead action June 14-16 along Historic Main Street in Marble Falls, when the thrilling action of the 4th Annual Marble Falls Soapbox Classic cruises back into town. Push and jump Jamaican Style racers will run side by side on the slalom course before free gliding down Third Street hill, while the Speed Division crews simply go for a mechanical start and the downhill gusto. Free attendance, great food, and a live performance with a street dance will draw a solid weekend crowd, so bring your lawn chairs, sunscreen, hats, and watch the “kiddults” race their creations.
Yee-Haw! It’s Rodeo Time in Burnet County
Watch pros and those aspiring to be take on bull, broncos, steers, and anything that moves in the ring at the Burnet County Fair & Rodeo the weekend of June 14-15. Beyond the action in the arena and the entertainment on the stage, vendors will offer wares amid traditional themes, as well as this year’s Christmas Affaire themed goods.
You won’t want to miss the crowning of this year’s rodeo Queen, the petting zoo, the 4-H BBQ lunch, the sweet rods and classic rides at the car show, or the free educational programs – not to mention the Ice Cream Crank Off! Every evening winds down with live music and dancing, so rope in those $10 tickets early before they sell out!
If you still want more rodeo action, you’re in luck! The Marble Falls Fair & Rodeo is in town the same weekend. A sanctioned CPCR event, the best of the best go for big bucks!

After an exciting weekend of derby races and rodeo going, take respite in the soothing sounds of local and nationally known musicians for a 5 concert series running June 17-21. Performances are held for the Summer Music Festival at 7pm at the Uptown Marble Theater in Marble Falls. An eclectic mix of classical, jazz, folk, and Christian music will be featured each night, giving you the opportunity to explore various forms of music. All performances are free, with exception to Friday’s performance.
